Christ Church Arts Project
We believe in enriching our curriculum by providing the highest-quality arts experiences for all the children at Christ Church and our Christ Church Arts Project is an important part of the life of our school.
Funding raised by our Friends Association provides the school with the opportunity to run two arts-based, whole school projects each year including workshops for children, visits to relevant galleries or concerts, training for staff and visits to school by arts professionals. Projects in recent years have focused on dance, jewellery-making, singing, self-portraits, textiles and musical theatre and we always have great fun and pride in sharing our work with parents and wider community through exhibitions, performances and concerts.
Recent projects
Spring 2024 – musical theatre
The whole school had a brilliant time rehearsing and performing together to present ‘Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’. We loved the costumes, the stage, the lights, the band, the singing and the dancing!
You can see more photos of our production here.
Autumn 2023 – Global Goals art work
Each child created a fabulous piece of art work inspired by one of the UN Global Goals and inspired by artists including Stephen Wiltshire, Wassily Kandinsky and Helen Zughaib. We shared our work in an exhibition for the school community. You can see all our work here.
Spring 2023 - A Celebration of Music!
With a focus on performance skills, every child took part in a brilliant music concert for family and friends, singing as whole school and performing in our whole class bands.
Autumn 2022 - Self portraits
Each child created a super self-portrait using different skills and media, inspired by artists including Julian Opie, Frida Kahlo, Derrick Adams and Pablo Picasso. You can see more photographs and information here. We held an exhibition of all our brilliant art work for friends and families!
Spring/Summer 2022 – Jubilee Coasters
To commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, every child used their art skills to design and make a jubilee coaster to keep as a lasting reminder of the celebrations. We shared our coasters as part of an exhibition after our special Jubilee Church Service. You can see more photos here.
Autumn 2021 – Happiness Project Art
Each class was inspired by one of the themes of our Happiness Project, which promotes positive mental health and well-being, and by the work artists from around the world to create beautiful pieces to share in our exhibition for families and friends. You can see all our work here.
Spring 2021 – Tree of Life artwork
Even though we were all learning from home, each child used painting and rubbing techniques to produce beautiful papers which they cut out into different natural elements. When we were back at school, we put them all together to make our beautiful Tree of Life!
Spring/Summer 2020 - 'Quilt' Art
Even though we were all learning from home over this period, we still worked together to create a beautiful 'quilt' art work inspired by our school's Christian values. Each child created their rainbow-coloured section with different collage materials at home which we connected together when we were all back together at school!
Autumn 2020 - Art inspired by the UNCRC and Global Goals
Children in all classes created both individual and class pieces of art work inspired by articles in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the UN Global Goals. You can see all our art work in our online exhibition here
Autumn 2019 - Art inspired by our local area
