Religious Education
Religious Education (RE) is a central part of our curriculum. As a Church of England school, our RE curriculum has a roughly two-thirds focus on Christianity, with the remaining one-third dedicated to the study of other major world faiths and worldviews. Pupils learn about key Christian festivals such as Christmas and Easter, alongside a range of Bible topics each year, enabling them to develop a secure understanding of Christian beliefs and practices.
Our RE curriculum is primarily based on the LDBS (London Diocesan Board for Schools) syllabus, where each unit of learning is framed around a ‘big question’. Teaching and learning are structured through three disciplinary lenses: theology, where children explore beliefs, teachings and sources of authority; philosophy, where they engage with questions of meaning, purpose and truth; and human and social sciences, where they investigate lived religion and the ways in which beliefs are expressed in practice.
Our curriculum also provides rich opportunities for children to explore and compare a range of world religions, including visits to the place of worship of all major world faiths. These visits currently include Belsize Square Synagogue, the London Buddhist Centre, Regent’s Park Mosque, Neasden Mandir and the Central Gurdwara. Pupils further deepen their understanding of Christianity through visits to Christ Church, and other churches, including St Paul’s Cathedral and St Alban’s Cathedral.
