SEN local offer


The Christ Church Primary School local offer sets out in one place – on our website – what we provide for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) throughout their time with us. It explains how we support them on to the next stage of their education. Our SEND policy gives more detail about our day to day procedures – for example how we plan the most effective support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and how we review their progress Camden Local Authority also publishes on its website a Camden Local Offer.


This sets out a wide range of information about the specialist services, schools, colleges and organisations that can provide support and information for families of children and young people with SEND. It explains the procedures for requesting an assessment for an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) – which is replacing the SEN statement. You will also find information about:

The purpose of our school’s local offer is to inform parents and carers about:

  • how we welcome into our school children with special educational needs and/or disabilities SEND);
  • how we support them in all aspects of school life and remove barriers to achievement;
  • how we work in close partnership with parents/carers and children;
  • how we make effective provision for all of our children with special educational needs and disabilities – SEND.


  • We will keep our Local Offer under review – by asking parents and children what is working well and what they want to improve
  • The next review date for our Local Offer is July 2015


  • We are a Camden primary school for the 5-11 age range.
  • There is one class in each Year Group, starting with our Reception class through to our Year 6 class.
  • We do not have a nursery and children join our Reception class from a wide range of nursery settings.
  • Children start school in the year they turn 5 in our Reception class.
  • Our most recent OFSTED report was in 2009 judging us to be outstanding in all areas. The

report noted:

“Teaching and learning are outstanding…Teachers have high expectations of all pupils; they expect them to do their best and pupils rise to this challenge. Very skilled teaching absorbs pupils and a very good range of teaching styles and planning for varying ability levels ensures that the needs of all learners are met very effectively. A major contribution to learning is made by the skilled support staff, particularly true with pupils who have statements of special educational need, who are sensitively helped to play a full part in lessons and other activities.”

“Excellent care and support are embedded in the ethos of the school and are firmly based on the positive and caring values that are promoted by the school.”

In April 2014, Neil Smith, SEND Consultant for Camden conducted an audit of the school’s special educational needs provision highlighting many key strengths including overall strategic management for SEND, full access to the curriculum for SEND pupils, highly successful outcomes for SEND pupils, parent partnership and managing transitions.

  • Our starting point is to guarantee a whole school approach to making provision for children with SEND: we make sure that all staff members have the knowledge and skills to support all children with SEND in our school. HOW WE LEARN WITH AND FROM OTHER SCHOOLS
  • We are a learning community and believe that it is important to work with other schools to make sure that our knowledge, expertise and skills on SEND issues are up to date. We also share our best practice with other schools: for example, we are part of a local inclusion cluster working together with other schools in the area. We recently held an inclusion cluster meeting for other SENDCOs and inclusion leaders here at Christ Church.
  • We undertake visits to local schools to share our practice and learn from what they are doing well.
  • Our Inclusion Leader attends the Local Authority SENDCO forum which keeps all schools up to date with national developments and local projects on inclusion.
  • Our teachers and teaching assistants are given opportunities to observe other colleagues and discuss good practice on how to enhance children’s learning as individuals or in groups. (This occurs in school and visiting other schools.)


At Christ Church School we welcome pupils with Special Educational Needs, and make every effort to support them. All our classes are fully inclusive and we have high expectations for all our children. We aim to meet the needs of pupils with:

  • Specific learning difficulties
  • Moderate learning difficulties
  • Social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Physical disabilities (NB: however, the school does not currently have a lift or ramps to allow access to the whole building).
  • Visual and hearing impairments
  • Communication difficulties, including autism

  • Our Head Teacher provides leadership on inclusion and high achievement for all.
  • Our Inclusion Leader oversees the provision and leadership for SEND and leads on the day to day operation of our SEND procedures following guidance in the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Our “SEND” Governor has a responsibility for monitoring and supporting the school on SEND matters on our governing body.
  • Our School Office staff can give you copies of our policies by email or paper copies.
